Agenda and minutes

Apologies for absence had been received from Councillors Judith Cooper and Susan O’Brien with Councillors Dominic Gilham and Wayne Bridges substituting.

It was confirmed that all items marked in Part 1 would be heard in public and those marked part 2 would be held in private.

The minutes of the meetings held on 24 April and 10 May 2012 were agreed as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.

The Committee discussed a number of possible review topics for 2012/2013.  The topics put forward were:

• Leaving Care Grant.
• Children Missing from Care.
• Special Educational Needs (SEN) Green Paper.
• Recruitment and Retention of Staff in Children’s Services.
• Education barriers for single mothers up to 18 seeking work.
• How well school leavers are prepared for work.
• Impact on the Local Education Authority of schools becoming Academies.

The Chairman suggested that the seven topics put forward should be reduced to three.  The Committee agreed to a single meeting review on the Leaving Care Grant to take place at the July meeting and that two draft scoping reports be produced on the SEN Green Paper and Children Missing from Care.    

Resolved –

1.   That a scoping report and witnesses be provided for the next meeting on a single meeting review on the Leaving Care Grant, and

2.    That Draft Scoping Reports be submitted to the next meeting on the SEN Green Paper and Children Missing from Care. 

The Committee noted the report setting out the items on the Forward Plan relating

 to Education & Children’s Services.

Resolved – That the items on the Forward Plan be noted.

The Committee received a report setting out the Work Programme for 2012/2013.

Resolved – That report be noted.
