Minutes:

Councillor Shirley Harper-O’Neill attended the meeting and spoke as Ward Councillor.

Concerns and suggestions from petitioners included the following:

  • Residents were finding it difficult to park on their road.
  • There were only 12 houses on Princes Way.
  • There was a trading and retail estate in the local proximity.
  • Commercial vehicles were often parked in the road.
  • Grass verges had been ruined.
  • Residents from Victoria Road often used Princes Way to park.
  • Every property in Diamond Road had a dropped kerb and residents of Diamond Road often parked in Princes Way.
  • A local car repair business frequently blocked access to garages and stored vehicles in Princes Way.

Cllr Shirley Harper-O’Neill spoke in support of the petitioners’ request and raised the following issues:

  • Neighbours got on well with each other.
  • There was 100% support from residents in Princes Way for parking restrictions to be implemented.
  • Princes Way was a unique road.
  • Many other roads in the local area already benefited from restricted parking.
  • There were 3 entrances to Princes Way.
  • There was a care and nursing home for the elderly located nearby and visitors would often park in Princes Way.

The Cabinet Member, Cllr Keith Burrows, listened to the concerns and responded to the points raised.

Councillor Burrows explained how residents’ parking schemes worked.  Residents’ parking schemes were not generally considered for individual roads; however, Ward Councillors’ views would be sought on a viable area to consult on parking proposals.  Cllr Burrows informed residents that sometimes 1 hour waiting restrictions stopped all day parking; however, waiting restrictions applied to everyone.

Officers informed petitioners that some roads needed planning permission to drop their kerbs to enable them to park their car off road which was not always given. Unfortunately residents of Victoria Road may be using side roads due to this reason.

The Cabinet Member asked officers to undertake a site visit to Princes Way to investigate petitioners’ request.

Resolved - That the Cabinet Member:

  1. Met and discussed with petitioners their concerns with parking in Princes Way, South Ruislip.

  1. Subject to the outcome of the above, asked officers to add the request to the Council’s extensive parking programme for further investigation in an area agreed with local Ward Councillors.

  1. Asked officers to undertake a site visit to Princes Way to investigate petitioners’ request.
