Gigantic & overcrowded development at 72 Harefield Road

We the undersigned petition Hillingdon Council to refuse Planning Application 25767/APP/2022/1400 to ensure the failure of the plan to build this multi-occupancy building on the site of a family home. Specific location details: 72 Harefield Road

We the undersigned oppose the proposed demolition of the family home at 72 Harefield Road, Uxbridge and the erection on site of 9 flats containing 15 bedrooms and 14 parking spaces.
The primary reasons for objection are:
(i) Congestion and effect of traffic on Harefield Road

72 Harefield Road is located on the a very narrow stretch of the road in between three separate road junctions. It is already a congested and dangerous stretch of road with difficult sight lines and parking spaces causing traffic to only be able to use one side of the road. To create an entrance for a further 14 cars right in the middle of this location will add to the congestion and danger to road users and pedestrians.

(ii) Location of car park for 10 vehicles

The plans propose a 10 space car park at the back of the site. This right next to the boundary of 2 Cambridge Road and means that the length of this property’s garden will have suffer from the inevitable pollution caused by all those cars on the other side of the fence. This will also affect all the other gardens in close proximity.
The location of the car park right next to the proposed small garden space made available for the new occupants means that the car park will sit in the middle of green space.
The parking spaces do not provide enough room for many occupants that will live in the building which cause parking in Harefield Road and the surrounding roads contributing further to the congestion in the local area.

(iii) Overdevelopment of a small site
The plans propose change from a space that was designed to be occupied by 4 or 5 people in one house to a multi-occupancy building with up to 30 people occupying the same space. The proposal sees the demolition of another interesting family home in an area where there have numerous changes to the local environment. The location of this proposed block of flats is completely out of keeping with this part of Harefield Road and will simply erode the character of the area even further. The destruction of a large garden to be replaced with a car park is hardly an environmentally friendly piece of planning.

(iv) Height of property/balconies and impact on residents behind the property
To make up for the lack of sufficient garden space the proposal intends to create a number of balconies at the back which will overlook the previous private gardens at the back of the property. These will now be overlooked and subject to whatever noise is emitted from those balconies. The building, given its significant height increase from the current family home will also take away light from the numerous gardens at the back that it will now overshadow.

This is the wrong development for the wrong part of Harefield Road and we the undersigned call on the rejection of the application.

On reaching 20 signatures it may be considered in conjunction with the relevant live planning application at an upcoming Committee meeting. The Council's Democratic Services Team will be in touch with the lead petitioner to advise and take this petition forward accordingly.
