Objection to externally illuminated fascia sign 4574/ADV/2024/38

We the undersigned petition Hillingdon Council to formally object to the proposed installation of an externally illuminated Fascia sign on the wall adjacent to 157 HIGH STREET RUISLIP, which I believe will have significant negative impacts on the local environment and community.

This area is a designated conservation area, and the installation of a illuminated Fascia sign will compromise the architectural integrity and historic status of the surrounding properties.

The brick wall and adjacent buildings represent key features of the local character, and such a development would detract from their aesthetic and cultural value.

Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the impact of the illuminated Fascia sign on the residents of nearby properties:

1. Light Pollution: The illumination from the illuminated Fascia sign will directly affect the flats in the neighbouring building at Pembroke Lodge (3 Pembroke Road) and a big part of Kings Lodge HA4 8NH.

2. Privacy concern: The lights may intrude into the homes, disrupting residents' quality of life and privacy, particularly during evening and nighttime hours and will limit the use of the existing balconies.

3. Community Character: The introduction of a large, commercial billboard in this location is out of character with the residential and heritage aspects of the area, undermining the principles of conservation that should guide developments in protected zones.

4. Unnecessary additional signage which would create a cluttered and visually disharmonious façade. The prosed signage is on an existing first floor wall, which is of typical London brick and provides an attractive addition to the conservation area. At ground floor level there is an existing shop unit, with associated shop window and fascia signage belonging to the unit (Mail Boxes Etc), but the proposed adverting would be for another shop and would sit above this. This would look cluttered and visually unattractive and would be detrimental to the character of the area.

Further:
Although the dimensions of the photo illustrated in the proposal are 7000 x 1500 mm, the formal application states the dimensions as 7000 x 3000 mm. This creates a visual representation of an advertising proposal with a significantly greater impact than what is demonstrated.

The business in question already has an illuminated sign that remains lit for most hours, even when the store is closed, and additional advertising is displayed on the windows of the apartment located on the first floor above the store.

I urge the planning authority to carefully consider the detrimental effects this proposal would have on the local community, the architectural environment, and the well-being of residents. It is my firm belief that the installation of the billboard is incompatible with the area’s protected status and community needs.

Please let me know if there is an opportunity to discuss this matter further or if additional documentation is required to support this objection.

Thank you for your attention to this issue. I trust that the planning authority will act in the best interests of preserving the integrity and harmony of the area.
