Leave Broadwater Sailing Club where it is

We the undersigned petition Hillingdon Council to leave Broadwater Sailing Club (BSC) in it's current location when considering Planning Application 2382/APP/2023/2906 (Amended November 2025).

As part of Planning Application 2382/APP/2023/2906 (Amended November 2025) it is proposed to relocate Broadwater Sailing Club (BSC), currently at the north end of Broadwater lake, to the new Hillingdon Water Sports Facility & Activity Centre (HWSF&AC) facility which will be at the south end of Broadwater Lake. This petition seeks to leave BSC in its current location on Broadwater Lake because the proposed new facility for BSC has the following issues and concerns:
1. Safety concern as the new facility does not have a clear view of the sailing area from the clubhouse and shoreline.
2. Difficult to sail in/out of the proposed facility launching area in the Eastern Channel due to trees masking wind in all directions and/or the narrow width of the channel to the open lake.
3. Reduced sailing & racing area compared to the current BSC planning permission due to proposed line of willow trees across the southern end of sailing area (trees create a wind shadow up to 10x height of trees).
4. Reduced number of boat park spaces, reduced rigging area and insufficient car parking spaces at peak times.
5. Significantly reduced BSC clubhouse/crew room footprint & no BSC only changing rooms (crew room reduces from c.50m2 to 32m2)
6. No BSC safety boat & equipment storage.
7. Moving BSC to southern end of lake increases activity & noise in the SSSI and bird sanctuary which is detrimental to wildlife.
8. Cost. This petition’s proposal will save Hillingdon Council the considerable cost of (a) demolition and clearing of BSC current site, (b) construction and provision of new BSC facilities.

To be clear the petition’s concern is ONLY to leave BSC in its current location, and leave the rest of the planning application 2382/APP/2023/2906 (amended November 2025) to justify the HWSF&AC at the southern end of the lake in the SSSI and bird sanctuary.

Note: Broadwater SC have successfully provided community sailing and dinghy racing for the residents of Hillingdon and surrounding areas for over 50 years. The BSC facilities (clubhouse & changing rooms, crew room & galley, boat park, rigging & launching areas & car park) have been located in the current location at northern end of lake for over 20 years and they were built prior to the SSSI and bird sanctuary. The current facilities are considered to be fit for purpose by BSC members and we have funds available to maintain and enhance the facility as required. From the current BSC lease area on Broadwater Lake, BSC have offered the north west bay area to the western end of the current boat park for return to nature.

On reaching 20 signatures it may be considered in conjunction with the relevant live planning application at an upcoming Committee meeting. The Council's Democratic Services Team will be in touch with the lead petitioner to advise and take this petition forward accordingly.
