Reasons in support of this e-Petition
Jollys Lane and Lochan Close in Hayes UB4 form the same street but are currently disconnected by bushes and a physical barrier. This disconnection causes unnecessary inconvenience not only for residents of Jollys Lane, but also for visitors and shoppers travelling from Ruislip Road.
Residents living on the Jollys Lane side currently have to drive a long and indirect route via Glencoe Road, the roundabout, and Broadmead Road in order to reach Ruislip Road. This adds avoidable journey time, increases fuel costs, and creates frustration for everyday activities such as commuting, school runs, shopping, and medical appointments.
The impact is wider than just local residents. Many people travelling from the Ruislip Road side to nearby retail locations such as Tesco, B&Q, and B&M would have a much shorter and more direct route via Lochan Close and Jollys Lane if the street were connected. Because of the current disconnection, drivers are forced to take longer routes, increasing congestion on surrounding roads.
This unnecessary diversion contributes to traffic congestion, particularly around Glencoe Road, the roundabout, and Broadmead Road. Reconnecting Jollys Lane and Lochan Close would help reduce traffic volumes on these roads by allowing vehicles to take a shorter, more direct route.
There are also environmental benefits. Reducing unnecessary driving distances would lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions, supporting the council’s environmental and air-quality objectives.
Finally, reconnecting the street would improve overall accessibility and efficiency of the local road network, benefiting residents, shoppers, delivery drivers, and visitors alike, while making better use of existing infrastructure rather than building new roads.
For these reasons, we ask the council to assess the feasibility of removing the existing barrier, consult with local residents, and, if appropriate, reconnect Jollys Lane and Lochan Close for vehicular access.
On reaching 20 signatures it will be formally considered by the Council and relevant Cabinet Member. Local ward Councillors will also be made aware of the petition. The Council's Democratic Services Team will keep the lead petitioner updated on progress.
