We the undersigned, are strongly against the proposal to
proposal to redevelop 32 Norwich Road (Planning Application ref
35516/APP/2021/2969) into 8 flats for the following reasons:
1. A block of flats is not in keeping with the surrounding streets
which solely comprise individual houses and bungalows
2. There are no other blocks of flats in the surrounding streets
and if this development is allowed would create a precedent which
would completely change the character of the area and make parking
untenable
3. The size and design of the proposed development is totally out
of character with the surrounding streets especially the provision
of balconies
4. The off-street parking provision of the proposed development
does not meet the minimum requirements of the Local Plan Parking
Standards (which stipulate 12 spaces)
5. The current level of street parking in Norwich Road and
surrounding streets would not be able to absorb the additional
parking requirements of 8 flats
6. The application states it will provide six off-street parking
spaces but in reality it is only offering two as four of these are
directly in front of a bus stop
7. To achieve the parking in front of the building would require
the bus stop to be moved and we do not consider there to be another
suitable position to relocate it due to the existing street
layout
8. The traffic reports states that the free flow of traffic on
Norwich Road is unaffected by parked cars on both sides – as
long-time residents we can confirm this is not factual and there is
severe congestion during rush hour and school times. At any time of
day, two way traffic is not possible when buses, lorries and vans
use the road
On reaching 20 signatures it may be considered in conjunction with the relevant live planning application at an upcoming Committee meeting. The Council's Democratic Services Team will be in touch with the lead petitioner to advise and take this petition forward accordingly.
