The ongoing issue of rubbish accumulation and fly-tipping on back street of Fray's Waye UB82RJ has reached an unacceptable level and requires urgent Council intervention.
This back street is regularly used by residents, children, pedestrians, and service vehicles, yet it has become a persistent dumping ground for household waste, loose rubbish, and discarded items. The problem is not isolated or occasional; it is recurring and worsening, indicating a lack of effective deterrence, monitoring, or regular maintenance.
The presence of unmanaged waste creates serious public health concerns. Accumulated rubbish attracts rats, foxes, insects, and other vermin, increasing the risk of disease and posing a danger to nearby homes. During warmer months, the smell and decomposition of waste further degrade the environment and residents’ wellbeing.
There are also safety risks. Broken items, sharp objects, and obstructed pathways make the area hazardous, particularly for children, elderly residents, and people with disabilities. Poor conditions also encourage further antisocial behaviour, as neglected spaces are more likely to be abused.
Beyond health and safety, the situation has a negative social and environmental impact. Residents feel ignored and undervalued, property appearance is affected, and community pride is eroded. A neglected environment sends the message that this area is not monitored or cared for, which only worsens the cycle of dumping.
We believe this issue can be significantly improved through
timely and proportionate Council action, including:
• Prompt clearance of existing waste
• A regular cleaning and inspection schedule
• Investigation into repeated fly-tipping incidents
• Preventative measures such as signage, bins, enforcement, or
monitoring
Residents pay Council Tax with the reasonable expectation of basic environmental standards being upheld. Addressing this issue would not only improve cleanliness but also restore safety, dignity, and confidence in local services.
