Hillingdon Council: Declare a Climate Emergency

We the undersigned petition Hillingdon Council to join other councils across the UK in passing a motion declaring a ‘Climate Emergency’ and set targets to: - Become carbon neutral by 2030 - Achieve 100% clean energy across the Council’s full range of functions by 2030

We are facing a climate crisis - a human crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report in October 2018 stating the catastrophic damage that 2? global average warming would have on our climate. Increased extreme weather such as drought, heatwaves and flooding are a huge risk to our ability to continue producing the food and water needed for our survival and quality of life. However, there is still time to keep warming to 1.5? and limit the damage done. But, they predicted, we only have 12 more years. Hillingdon council must recognise this and lead the way in tackling climate change from home.

On reaching 20 signatures it will be formally considered by the Council and relevant Cabinet Member. Local ward Councillors will also be made aware of the petition. The Council's Democratic Services Team will keep the lead petitioner updated on progress.
